Many astral projection books give you procedures for getting out of body, which generally result in some success. Ultimately, though, many adventurers in consciousness become disappointed in experiences that fail to live up to their pre-conceived notions of what should be happening. This often happens, Kurt Leland suggests, because they lack the knowledge that would help them appreciate what their adventures actually do signify and also as a result of insufficiently developed inner-senses that would allow them to better perceive, remember and understand their experiences.
Leland borrows from Jane Robert's Seth materials in defining the inner senses as "the channels through which the entire composition of any plane is appreciated and actually maintained. " He emphasizes the importance of developing these senses in order to better perceive and understand adventures in consciousness related to dreaming, lucid dreaming, out of body states and psychic experiences. For example, well developed relational inner senses would allow one to perceive the presence of other entities, to determine their nature, communicate with them and to clearly understand their communications. In his book, Leland offers a range of exercises geared towards developing these inner senses.
Many projectors vaguely understand the notion of their own multi-dimensionality without realising that there are several vehicles of consciousness beyond the etheric and astral bodies, including, using the terms from Theosophy that Leland utilises, the mental, causal, buddhic, monadic and divine bodies. Leland's own experiences have convinced him that by mastering the various energy bodies and related planes, adventurers in consciousness grow in understanding and achieve a spiritual evolution that brings them ever closer to Source.
Thus, he argues for astral projection as a spiritual pursuit and endorses the understanding that many oneironauts eventually arrive at: that events in our physical plane lives, and the emotional and mental habits we develop in response to these, impact our adventures in consciousness. Continually seeking out new techniques and new tools for astral projection will not solve the problems of infrequent or short lucid experiences or inability to consistently direct those experiences along desired lines. Instead, adventurers can work towards greater flexibility of consciousness (a key idea in Leland's work), which can be facilitated through better understanding of dreams and through the use of the exercises aimed at developing the inner senses. This will lead to satisfaction of the true impulse that lies beneath the desires for such adventures in consciousness, which is, "to know who we are, how we fit into the universe, and whether we have a special mission or purpose to fulfill," (p.39).

The best psychic development and astral projection book there is!

Let me just say something about myself first: I have read no less than two hundred (yes, two hundred; if you include books that I've skimmed through for the content then that would make it no less than a thousand) books on psychic development, astral projection, magick, aura viewing, psychic healing, theosophy, angels, witchcraft and everything occult. Ok, to say that this is the BEST is exaggerating and unfair to all the other equally elucidating and insightful books available. But I say it is the best because it will not only give you more results, it gives you a holistic approach which, because other how-to books lack, will truly aid your spiritual growth.
Although the author draws on the knowledge of other authors like Jane Roberts and other theosophical authors, his approach is truly unique and his own. This book is unique, unlike most other books that are centred on the same few concepts of psychic development. If you're not meant to develop your psychic abilities, you won't be able to, because practices that truly open up your inner senses will NOT appeal to you. You would be drawn to practices that only yield results after a certain level of mental and emotional cultivation has been achieved (most direct psychic development exercises like crystal gazing, psychic reading, meditation for the purpose of psychic development, aura viewing, etc) and hence, aren't likely to succeed. I speak from experience. So, if you really think you are ready and sincerely desire to know the truth, to understand this world and to rise up to the higher planes, then read this book.

Fascinating, gentle, and confirming lessons.

In my meditation room I have two plants. Lovely things, really. I have no idea what they are, but I have had them placed one by the other for months. When I decided to craft a second meditation room in my basement, I took one plant with me and left the other in place upstairs. I wanted "live" things in both places. Oddly, I had a sense that the plants were saddened by the move. I know, I know, to the skeptical reader this all sounds like mush, and I even dismissed it as such. During my meditation times in each room, however, I kept sensing each plant making the request to be reunited with the other. Strange, I thought. I'm going all soft. I'm going all "illogical." Going all New Age.
But not really...
Today my copy of The Multidimensional Human came and I read a few chapters right away. Early on in the book Kurt deals with the idea of universal conscious nets among all living things: plants, animal, human, and inorganic. Suffice to say I'm only on chapter three of this book and so much of my odd, unexplainable life experiences now make sense. This is the most fascinating, gentle, and confirming book I've read in a very long time. Just in time.
And yes, the plants are back together now and I'm not New Age...rather Old Age I suspect. We'll see.
