pretty cool, not many designs though.

I ordered this book, not really knowing what was in it. its very detailed, and has funny pictures of the author posing with the gun in combat fatigues. but only 1 gun design is included plus one variation of that gun. this "book" is more magazine sized. that said, it's very cool. price isn't bad, so if you really like lego, get it, it's worth it for a neat project...

Not as much fun as expected.

This is a great idea, but I suspect it was a lot more fun to create than it is to actually "read." You have to really be an avid Lego-lover to want to build the projects contained in this book. And you either need to already own an incredible array of Lego pieces (preferably neatly cataloged and stored), or be willing to place a substantial order of individual bricks from the company. I didn't take the time to figure out how much it would cost to build one of the guns designed by the author, but I suspect it would be very steep.

But don't let me stop you if you love building Lego models from scratch instead of in a pre-packaged kit. That's just not my thing and I don't have the time to invest in doing so. Still, it was interesting to see what they came up with. For me, though, I don't think it will ever go beyond a curiosity on paper.

Our son enjoyed building the different models and soon adapted his own, but the book is really a use once item unless you can find someone to gift to.

About the Author
Somnath Batabyal worked for a decade in journalism, covering crime and criminality, hobnobbing with politicians and policemen, before entering the quieter world of Western academia. His first book, Making News in India: Star News and Star Ananda, was published in 2011. He has also edited a volume, Indian Mass Media and the Politics of Change (2010). Somnath now lives in London where he teaches at the School of Oriental and African Studies. The Price You Pay is his first novel.

racing story of cops and robbers and journalists set in Delhi

[Full disclosure: Somnath is a friend]

The Price You Pay is Somnath Batabyal's first novel, a racing story of cops and robbers and journalists set in Delhi. It never lets up for a second, and despite the confusingly huge array of characters, I was enrapt the entire book. This was mainly due to the strong characters - not often found in books about the press and police.

Our novice journalist and hero, Abhishek, is smart enough to keep just barely ahead of the game, and naive enough to let the reader be him through all the twists and turns. It does feel like everything and the kitchen sink gets thown at him (his career is a shooting star), and if it's a Delhi sink, then you might guess how twisted and graphic that might be.

The city is another fabulous character in the book, and I felt I got a real sense of the ins and outs of the bureaucracy and bravery that's required to survive that mad place. Highly recommended if you feel like a super fun fast gritty blow through contemporary Delhi.

About the Author
�A.J. (Lonnie) Strickland received a BS in Math and Physics from the University of Georgia, an MS in Industrial Management from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD from Georgia State university. He currently holds the rank of Professor of Strategic Management in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Alabama. He has done extensive consulting and research work. In recent years, he was honored with the Outstanding Professor Award for the Graduate School of Business, and was the recipient of the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award for the University of Alabama.

John E. Gamble is currently Associate Dean and Professor of Management in the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama. His teaching specialty at USA is strategic management and he also conducts a course in strategic management in Germany, which is sponsored by the University of Applied Sciences in Worms. Dr. Gamble's research interests center on strategic issues in entrepreneurial, health care, and manufacturing settings. His work has been published in various scholarly journals and he is the author or co-author of more than 50 case studies published in an assortment of strategic management and strategic marketing texts. He has done consulting on industry and market analysis for clients in a diverse mix of industries. Professor Gamble received his Ph.D. in management from the University of Alabama in 1995. Dr. Gamble also has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Alabama.

and I would tell you that I liked it so much that I will be using it ...

I rented this book from Amazon, and I would tell you that I liked it so much that I will be using it for future references. I used it for my Strategic Management class for Supervision and Management.
I had to do about four presentations from the cases of this book. I enjoyed the cases in this book, I even read most of them. like I said I will be using this version or future versions of this book for references.

This wasn't my favorite textbook, but I did enjoy the thorough case ...

This wasn't my favorite textbook, but I did enjoy the thorough case studies at the end of the book. I used those more than the chapter contents by far. Regardless, this was a mandatory purchase. I did appreciate the Amazon rental option as I am someone who doesn't like to hold onto unnecessary items.

4 stars!!! Of course I'm an Amazon, fan and definitely love the fact that I was able to rent this book instead of being duped out of $336 from my school website. Same book, brand new and saved me a ton of money!

Wayne Stinnett is a best selling American novelist and a Veteran of the Marine Corps. Between those careers, he’s worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, dive master, taxi driver, construction manager, and long-haul truck driver. He lives on Lady's Island, in the South Carolina Low Country, with his wife and youngest daughter. They have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. He grew up in Melbourne, Florida and has also lived in the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and Cozumel, Mexico.

I enjoyed the book but....

I love the series but this book felt different. It seemed rushed and the story line never seemed to tie together . It was way too short and lacked the details I've come to expect. I'm hoping the stress of starting the Merciless Charity series,along with relocating to another state was the cause of this short story advertised as a novel. I'm a big fan and will be looking forward to the next Jesse McDermott adventure. I hope the author will slow down and get back to what got him where he is now. Could have been another 5 star.

Fallen Tide: The beginning of the end...

I have read all of Stinnette's Jessis Mcdermitt series and we paid for a book and got a short story this time. He wrote Pescador out of the future books, which I think is a serious mistake, and Jessie bought a mini gun I suppose for one of his boats or plane. What's next ? Is Jessie going to buy a surface to air missile and he kills off Kim, Rusty or Deuce. He needs to get back to basics with a small dose of reality or he is going to start losing readers. Wayne we deserve better than this book (short story)

Trite is a good description....

First of this writer's novels for me, and last. Full of cliches, no characterization, not much plot development, stilted conversation. Not much of a book. It read like a barely fleshed outline. If you eliminated all the names of guns, equipment, military titles and equipment, half the book would be gone. The half that was left lacked anything to sink one's teeth into. A big disappointment, even given my already low expectations of the genre.
